Research & Planning

Gaining insight & empathy

Initial research was conducted through one-to-one interviews with couples in Cuba, France and Canada. We identified what are the pain points in their experience. In order to give another layer to story we also added an expert view

Designing Interviews

We made several interviews across Canada, Cuba and Europe. We identified key themes and unpacked the evolution of getting hooked to kitesurfing and its impact on partners in five sections. For each section, we included an expert opinion to give more context. It was important to show both sides of the story equally while splitting the screen in two. While one of the partners is sharing her experience a pop-up on the right side of the screen that includes a link for the other partner testimony is present to offer the other side of the story instantly.

Poll and Data Visualisation

To increase the engagement we included live polls using third party plug-ins. Using hashtags we were able to surface generated content on the interactive documentary as well

Design System

Simplifying complexity

Rethink xxx design system aims to make complex information approachable and beautiful. This is achieved through the use of more humanistic elements, such as a serifed typeface and organic animated graphics that infuse the site with life and personality.

Logo

The SciOPS logo blends visuals from data and science to represent the vast amount of information collected to bring forth a unified consensus.

Information Design

For the infograph design, we decided to opt for a style that was minimal yet colorful. Oversized numbers were added to make the graphic quickly scannable.

Animated Icons

Three icons were designed and animated to visually represent the process that the SciOPS follows to collect, analyze and share their data.

Photography

A photo specific treatment was developed and used on key images throughout the site to create a distinct visual style for the site and darken images so that text could be added on top.
